We want young people to become proficient writers. To do that, they need exposure to great stories and the guidance to take those stories and use them to bolster their own writing.
That is the goal of the 'From Player to Page' English writing initiative - bringing together writers with young people to create a renewed interest in writing among young people.

The event is ideal for students from Year 7 through to Year 11. The chosen games will draw on the curriculum content they have acquired throughout their studies, while also allowing them to incorporate the experiences they have had through their time playing an eclectic set of video games.

The From Player to Page event will take place at the University of Hull from 25th February to the 26th February
The event begins with a live game play session in which students are introduced to the 3 games that have been chosen as inspiration. Using notes that have been made during game play, they will move into writing workshops led by members of the industry, working in teams to create new ideas that they will use to develop their own composition to be submitted at the end of the final day.
Members of staff are invited to join panel talks with members of the games industry.
Entry to the From Player to Page Creative Writing and Careers event 2026 is free to schools in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Competitions are not only a time to reward our best; they are an opportunity to inspire everyone to aim higher, try harder and do better.
Some students feel like their enjoyment of gaming must be kept separate and apart from their schooling. However, by bridging the divide between the two, 'From Player to Page' can bring out the creativity and flair of students with an interest in gaming and video games.
